Fish Identification Dive, Grand Cayman

The Fish Identification Dive (FishID) is designed to introduce divers to the habitat and behavior of fish. The type of underwater terrain where a particular species is likely to be found is considered its habitat. Reefs and surrounding areas are frequented by divers. The fish's normal activities that is often observed by divers aids in the identification of their behavior.

The Grand Cayman's ecosystem is rich with marine life and hundreds of dive sites. On this dive we identified angelfish, parrotfish, damsels, wrasses, groupers, snappers, rays, chromis and the longespine squirrel fish which are all very common in the Cayman Islands.

Free SCUBA Diving Orientations from SPE

At SPE Dive School, we hear questions all the time like “is SCUBA diving hard?”, “is SCUBA diving expensive?”, and “is SCUBA diving dangerous?” As Washington, D.C.’s best SCUBA diving certification school, we want to be sure your questions are answered!
We offer free SCUBA diving orientation classes to help you learn if SCUBA is right for you. Our monthly orientation meetings last about 2 hours and are conveniently located on the red line at the Friendship Heights metro stop.
Attending an orientation session prior to participation in the open water course is required, as important information regarding the dive course is presented in detail and valuable tips and information are presented regarding diving gear selection (mask, snorkel, fins, fin booties, and weight belt) that is not covered in regular class meetings. It is not necessary to register for attending the orientation or to bring swimsuits or dive equipment with you. However, we highly recommend that you do not purchase any diving equipment before attending the orientation.

 When should I take the course?

SPE Dive School, LLC caters to busy professionals. Some of our students have had to wait several years to find time to take the course. We recommend that you enroll in a course as soon as your schedule allows, regardless of when you plan to go on your dive trip. If you complete the course several months before your dive trip, we'll invite you to participate in a free of charge "brush up" before your departure. PADI stands for Professional Association of Diving Instructors. It is the largest SCUBA franchise in the world, certifying more than half of all divers worldwide. Open Water Certification Dives

Once you have completed the classroom and pool work, the only remaining step is the best one of all: it's time to go diving! To complete the check-out dive required for certification, we offer three options:

1. Complete the dives locally over two half-days on a weekend in a quarry;
2. Join us on one of our monthly SCUBA open water certification dive trips to Grand Cayman Island - offered at the end of each course for finishing requirements in the ultimate diving environment;
3. Complete the dives on your personal vacation at your preferred destination by obtaining a student referral form from your instructor.

Safety Stop - After 100 Feet Deep Dive in the Grand Cayman

Students of SPE Dive School, LLC and Director, Mike Parker end their Deep Dive with a 15 minute Safety Stop at 15 Feet/5 metres. The 100 Feet Dive was at the Devil's Grotto dive site in the Grand Caymans.

As with all deep diving, Mike Parker led the group with a controlled ascent no faster than 60 feet/18 metres per second and made a conservative fifteen minute safety stop at 15 feet/5 metres to decompress. Completing his Advance Certification, student La Nard Bradley, had his GoPro camera on hand to capture the amazing depths in 1080p High Definition.
